Clinical Information

Evidence-based details for healthcare providers

Use this medication only as directed by your healthcare provider. They will decide the dose, injection site, and how often you need it. If you miss a scheduled dose, contact your provider for guidance. Do not double up or self-inject without clear instructions.

L-Proline is an amino acid your body uses to build collagen, which forms skin, tendons, and other connective tissues. When injected, the proline enters your bloodstream right away, giving cells quick access to this building block. Most patients will not feel an immediate effect, but regular dosing supports tissue repair and recovery over days to weeks. The injected proline is used up or removed from the body within about 24 hours.

Do not use if you are allergic to L-proline or any ingredient in this product. Do not use if you have severe kidney disease (proline can build up in the blood). Avoid if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your provider decides the benefits outweigh the risks. Not for use in children under 12 unless specifically prescribed. People with inborn errors of amino-acid metabolism should not receive this medication.

High-protein supplements or other amino-acid injections may raise proline levels too much. Medicines that stress the kidneys (such as high-dose NSAIDs or certain antibiotics like gentamicin) can increase the chance of kidney problems when combined with amino-acid injections. Tell your provider about diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or herbal products that affect kidney function. Limit alcohol, which can strain the liver and kidneys.

Very common (affects more than 1 in 10): mild pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site—usually fades within a few hours. Common (1-10 in 100): nausea, mild stomach upset, headache, or a warm feeling after injection. Uncommon (1-10 in 1,000): dizziness, flushing, or itching. Rare but serious: allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face or throat, trouble breathing—seek emergency help right away. Kidney strain may occur in people with kidney disease; report decreased urine or swelling in legs.

Store refrigerated at 36-46 °F (2-8 °C). Keep in the original, airtight container and protect from light. Do not freeze. Once a vial is punctured, use within 28 days or as directed by your pharmacy. Dispose of any unused or expired solution through a pharmacy take-back program or mix with coffee grounds in a sealed bag before discarding in household trash.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

How is L-Proline Injection given?

Your healthcare provider or a trained nurse will inject it under the skin (subcutaneous) or into a muscle (intramuscular). Never inject yourself unless your provider has taught you the correct technique.

2

When will I notice any benefits?

Because proline helps build collagen, effects are gradual. Many patients notice better recovery or less joint discomfort after several weeks of regular use, but this varies with each person.

3

Can I take oral proline supplements instead?

Some people can, but if you have absorption issues or need higher doses quickly, your provider may choose the injectable form. Always ask before switching forms.

4

What should I do if the solution looks cloudy?

Do not use it. A clear, colorless solution is required for safety. Return the vial to the pharmacy for replacement.

5

Is it safe to use with my other medications?

Usually yes, but you must tell your provider about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements so they can check for kidney-related interactions.

6

Do I need to follow any special diet while using this injection?

A balanced diet with normal protein is fine for most people. Avoid very high-protein shakes unless your provider approves, as too much protein can overwhelm your kidneys.
