Clinical Information
Evidence-based details for healthcare providers
Use as directed by your healthcare provider. Swallow the capsule with a glass of water, ideally at bedtime, unless your provider tells you differently. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at the same time. Your healthcare provider will decide how long you should stay on therapy.
Progesterone is a hormone that balances the effects of estrogen. After swallowing the capsule, it is absorbed through your gut and reaches peak levels in about 2–3 hours. It then binds to progesterone receptors in tissues such as the uterus, brain, and breasts. This helps regulate the menstrual cycle, thicken the uterine lining for possible pregnancy, and calm nerve activity, which may improve sleep and mood. Most people notice symptom relief within 2–8 weeks, but full benefits can take up to three months.
Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding (may harm the baby). Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, liver disease, a history of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, or hormone-dependent cancer such as breast or uterine cancer. Do not use if you are allergic to progesterone, peanuts (some formulations use peanut oil), or any capsule ingredients. Not for use in children.
Progesterone may be broken down faster by seizure medicines like carbamazepine and phenytoin, certain antibiotics such as rifampin, and herbal supplements like St. John’s wort—this can lower progesterone levels. Antifungal drugs such as ketoconazole, HIV medicines like ritonavir, and grapefruit juice may raise progesterone levels, increasing side effects. Using alcohol or sedatives can increase drowsiness. Always tell your healthcare provider and pharmacist about every medicine, vitamin, or supplement you take.
Very common (affects more than 1 in 10 people): drowsiness or grogginess the next morning. Common (affects 1–10 in 100): breast tenderness, headache, bloating, mild mood changes. Uncommon (affects 1–10 in 1,000): dizziness, itching, acne, fluid retention. Rare but serious: blood clots in legs or lungs (sudden leg pain or shortness of breath), severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling of face or throat), liver problems (yellowing skin or dark urine). Most mild side effects improve within a few weeks. Contact your provider right away if you notice serious or lasting problems.
Store at room temperature (68-77 °F, 20-25 °C) in a dry place. Keep capsules in their original container with the lid tightly closed and away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Do not store in the bathroom or kitchen. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Dispose of unused or expired capsules through a pharmacy take-back program or mix them with coffee grounds in a sealed bag before placing in household trash.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time of day to take my progesterone capsule?
Most people take it at bedtime because it can make you feel sleepy. Follow your provider’s advice if they suggest a different time.
How long before I start feeling better?
Some symptoms like better sleep may improve within a few days, but hot flashes and mood may take 2–8 weeks. Full hormone balance can take up to three months.
Can I drink alcohol while on progesterone?
It is best to limit alcohol. Drinking can increase drowsiness and may worsen mood swings. If you choose to drink, keep it moderate and never mix with a missed dose to ‘catch up.’
Should I take progesterone with food?
You can take it with or without food. Taking it with a light snack may reduce stomach upset for some people.
What if I’m scheduled for surgery or a long flight?
Tell your surgeon you are taking progesterone because hormone therapy can slightly raise clot risk. For long flights, walk around and stretch your legs often. Ask your provider if you need any special precautions.
Is this capsule made from natural or synthetic hormones?
This product contains bioidentical progesterone, meaning it has the same chemical structure as the hormone your body makes naturally.
Can men take progesterone capsules?
These capsules are intended for women’s hormone replacement. Men should only use progesterone if specifically prescribed by a healthcare provider for a different approved reason.

Compounded gonadorelin injection is a sterile prescription medication prepared by a licensed pharmacy. Gonadorelin is a lab-made form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone, which is a natural hormone made by the body. It is used under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider for patient-specific treatment plans. Because this is a compounded medication, it is not FDA-approved, and its safety, effectiveness, and quality depend on proper compounding and handling.

Testosterone | Anastrozole Pellets
These compounded pellets slowly release testosterone and a small amount of anastrozole after they are placed under the skin by a healthcare professional. The pellets help raise low testosterone levels while anastrozole lowers extra estrogen that can build up from testosterone therapy. Each pellet delivers steady hormone levels for about 3–6 months, reducing the need for daily pills or injections.
