Clinical Information

Evidence-based details for healthcare providers

Use as directed by your healthcare provider. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin once daily, usually at night, unless told otherwise. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next application. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed dose. Your provider will decide how long you should keep using this medication.

Hydroquinone blocks an enzyme called tyrosinase, which your skin needs to make the dark pigment melanin. This helps fade dark patches over 4–8 weeks. Retinoic acid speeds up skin cell turnover and boosts collagen so newer, smoother skin comes to the surface; mild peeling can start within the first 2 weeks. Hyaluronic acid pulls water into the outer skin layer for instant and long-lasting hydration. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) acts as an antioxidant and further slows melanin production, adding brightness. Together, these actions even skin tone, soften fine lines, and leave skin looking clearer and more radiant.

Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding (retinoic acid may harm an unborn baby). Do not use if you are allergic to hydroquinone, retinoids, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or any ingredient in this cream. Avoid use on broken, irritated, or sunburned skin. Not for children under 18 years old. People with eczema, rosacea, or very sensitive skin should discuss risks with their dermatologist before starting.

Avoid using other topical products that contain benzoyl peroxide, alpha-hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic), beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic), or strong exfoliants at the same time—this can increase irritation. Do not combine with other prescription retinoids or skin-lightening agents unless your provider says it’s safe. Oral isotretinoin can raise sensitivity; wait at least 6 months after finishing isotretinoin before starting this cream. Procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments may intensify side effects; tell your provider if you plan these. Limit alcohol-based or fragranced skin care products, which may worsen dryness or redness.

Very common (affects more than 1 in 10 users): mild redness, peeling, or dryness during the first few weeks; usually lessens as skin builds tolerance. Common (affects up to 1 in 10): stinging, burning, or itching at the application site, temporary skin lightening around treated areas. Uncommon (up to 1 in 100): acne flare, skin tightness, increased sun sensitivity. Rare but serious: severe allergic rash, blistering, or blue-black darkening (exogenous ochronosis) with prolonged hydroquinone use; stop use and seek medical help right away. Most mild side effects improve with moisturizers or by reducing application frequency.

Store tightly closed at room temperature 68-77 °F (20-25 °C). Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Discard any unused cream 3 months after opening or by the expiration date, whichever comes first. Dispose of through a pharmacy take-back program or mix with coffee grounds in a sealed bag before throwing in household trash.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

How long before I see results?

Some people notice brighter, smoother skin in 2–4 weeks, but dark spots often take 6–8 weeks or longer to fade. Keep using the cream as directed and protect your skin from the sun for best results.

2

Can I use this during the day?

It is usually applied at night because retinoic acid can make skin more sensitive to sunlight. If your provider tells you to use it during the day, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) afterward.

3

What should I do if my skin gets too dry or red?

Reduce use to every other night or as your provider recommends, and apply a gentle moisturizer 10–15 minutes after the cream. If irritation is severe or blistering occurs, stop using the product and contact your provider.

4

Can I wear makeup over this cream?

Yes. Let the cream absorb fully, then apply a moisturizer if desired, followed by makeup. Remove makeup gently at night before the next application to avoid extra irritation.

5

Is it safe to use around my eyes?

Avoid applying the cream to your eyelids or very close to the eyes, as the skin there is thin and easily irritated. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with cool water.

6

Do I need to stop other skin treatments?

Tell your provider about any acids, peels, or laser treatments you use. Many people pause strong exfoliants or postpone procedures until their skin adjusts to this cream to lower the risk of irritation.
