Clinical Information

Use as directed by your healthcare provider. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time. Your provider will decide how long you should keep taking the capsules.

Biotin helps enzymes that turn food into energy and supports the building blocks of hair proteins called keratins. Minoxidil relaxes tiny blood vessels around hair roots, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to follicles. Most people start to notice less shedding in 4-8 weeks, with thicker, fuller hair growth after 3-6 months of steady use. Benefits last only while you keep taking the medication.

Do not use if you are allergic to biotin or minoxidil. Do not use if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, as safety is not established. Avoid if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart failure, recent heart attack, pheochromocytoma, or severe kidney disease because oral minoxidil can worsen these conditions. Not for use in children under 18 years old.

Minoxidil may enhance the effect of blood pressure medicines such as ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, or diuretics, leading to dizziness or fainting. Using with guanethidine or other strong antihypertensives can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. NSAIDs like ibuprofen can weaken minoxidil’s blood-pressure-lowering effect. Biotin can interfere with certain lab tests, especially thyroid and heart enzyme tests; stop biotin 72 hours before blood work if your doctor advises. Tell your provider about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements you take.

Very common (more than 1 in 10): temporary increase in hair shedding during the first few weeks as old hairs fall out and new hairs start growing. Common (1-10 in 100): headache, mild swelling in hands or feet, faster heartbeat, dizziness, unwanted body hair growth. Uncommon (1-10 in 1000): low blood pressure, weight gain from fluid retention, skin rash, stomach upset. Rare but serious: chest pain, severe shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, fainting. Call your doctor right away if you notice chest pain, swelling in ankles, or trouble breathing.

Store at room temperature 68-77°F (20-25°C) in a dry place away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep capsules in the original tightly closed container. Do not store in bathrooms or near sinks. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Discard unused or expired capsules through a pharmacy take-back program or mix with coffee grounds in a sealed bag before putting in household trash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How long before I see new hair growth?

A:Most people notice less shedding within the first 1-2 months and visible thicker hair after 3-6 months. Keep taking the capsules daily; stopping too soon can cause progress to reverse.

Q:What should I do if I feel dizzy after taking a capsule?

A:Sit or lie down right away and rise slowly when the feeling passes. If dizziness is severe, keeps coming back, or you faint, call your healthcare provider. Do not drive or use heavy machines until you know how the medicine affects you.

Q:Can I drink alcohol while on this medication?

A:Light social drinking is usually fine, but alcohol can raise the chance of low blood pressure with minoxidil. Limit alcohol and monitor how you feel. Talk to your provider if you notice more dizziness after drinking.

Q:Will biotin affect my lab tests?

A:Yes, high doses of biotin can give falsely high or low results on thyroid, heart enzyme, and hormone tests. Tell all healthcare professionals you take biotin. They may ask you to stop it 72 hours before blood work.

Q:Is this safe for women who might become pregnant?

A:No. Oral minoxidil has not been proven safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and it may harm a developing baby. Use reliable birth control and talk to your provider before starting if you could become pregnant.

Q:Does this replace topical minoxidil foam or solution?

A:Some people use the capsule alone, while others keep using topical minoxidil for extra benefit. Follow your provider’s plan; do not stop topical treatments without medical advice.
