Clinical Information

Evidence-based details for healthcare providers

Use as directed by your healthcare provider. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin once daily, usually at night. If you miss a dose, apply it the next evening unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not apply more than directed or layer multiple doses together.

Retinoic acid speeds up skin cell turnover and boosts collagen, helping fade dark spots and smooth fine lines. Azelaic acid fights acne-causing bacteria and calms inflammation, which can reduce redness. Niacinamide strengthens the skin barrier, locks in moisture, and evens skin tone. Most people notice less redness and smoother texture in 4-6 weeks, with clearer, brighter skin after 8-12 weeks when used consistently. Benefits last as long as treatment continues.

Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding (retinoic acid can harm an unborn baby). Do not use if you are allergic to retinoic acid, azelaic acid, niacinamide, or any cream components. Avoid use on broken, sunburned, or eczema-flared skin. Not for children under 12 unless directed by a dermatologist.

Avoid applying other prescription retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene), benzoyl peroxide, or strong exfoliating acids at the same time; this can increase irritation. Let your provider know if you use isotretinoin capsules, photosensitizing drugs (such as doxycycline), or topical steroids, as extra sun protection may be needed. Limit alcohol-based toners, abrasive scrubs, and perfumed products on treated areas to reduce dryness.

Very common (more than 1 in 10 people): mild redness, dryness, peeling, or stinging during the first 2-4 weeks; these usually lessen with continued use. Common (1-10 in 100): itching, slight burning, temporary darkening of spots before they fade. Uncommon (1-10 in 1,000): swelling, severe irritation, or rash; stop use and call your provider if this occurs. Rare but serious: allergic reaction with hives, severe swelling, or trouble breathing—seek emergency help right away.

Store tightly closed at room temperature, 68-77°F (20-25°C). Keep away from direct heat, humidity, and sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep out of bathrooms and away from children or pets. Discard any unused cream 6 months after opening or by the expiration date, whichever comes first. Use a pharmacy take-back program or seal in a bag with coffee grounds or cat litter before throwing away.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

How long will it take before I see results?

Most people notice less redness and smoother skin in about a month. Dark spots, fine lines, and acne usually improve after 2–3 months of consistent nightly use.

2

Should I use it in the morning or at night?

Apply it at night unless your provider tells you otherwise. Retinoic acid can make skin more sensitive to sunlight, so nighttime use helps lower that risk.

3

Can I wear makeup or moisturizer over it?

Yes. Wait at least 10–15 minutes after applying the cream so it can fully absorb, then use a gentle moisturizer. Makeup can be applied afterward. Always wear broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day.

4

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No. Products containing retinoic acid should not be used if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding because they can harm the baby.

5

What should I do if my skin becomes very dry or irritated?

Cut back to every other night or pause for a few days, and apply a simple fragrance-free moisturizer. If irritation is severe or does not improve, contact your healthcare provider.

6

Can I use this with my acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid?

Using them at the same time can cause extra dryness. If your provider approves, apply them at different times of day (for example, benzoyl peroxide in the morning, this cream at night) and watch for irritation.
