Enclomiphene Citrate is an orally compounded tablet used to raise your body’s own testosterone production. It belongs to a class of medicines called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). By blocking certain estrogen signals in the brain, it tells your testes to make more testosterone and sperm. This product is compounded per prescription and is not FDA-approved. It is intended for adult men under the care of a licensed healthcare provider.

Clinical Information

Use as directed by your healthcare provider. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time. Your healthcare provider will decide how long you should take this medicine.

Enclomiphene blocks estrogen signals in a part of your brain called the hypothalamus. This makes your pituitary gland release more luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Higher LH and FSH tell your testes to make more testosterone and sperm. Most men start to feel more energy and improved mood within 2–4 weeks, with full hormone changes seen after about 3 months. The boost in testosterone usually lasts as long as you keep taking the medicine.

Do not use if you are allergic to enclomiphene or clomiphene. Do not use if you are female, pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, because the drug can harm an unborn baby. Do not use if you have liver disease, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal problems, or hormone-sensitive cancers such as prostate or breast cancer. Do not use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.

Enclomiphene may increase the effects of blood thinners like warfarin, raising bleeding risk. Taking other SERMs (such as tamoxifen or clomiphene) at the same time can raise side-effect chances. Testosterone or anabolic steroids may blunt the medicine’s ability to stimulate natural testosterone. Seizure medicines like phenytoin or carbamazepine can lower enclomiphene levels. Limit alcohol, as heavy drinking can lessen treatment effects and raise liver strain. Always tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products you use.

Very common (more than 1 in 10 men): mild headache, flushing or feeling warm. Common (1–10 in 100 men): nausea, mood swings, blurred vision, breast tenderness, increased sweating. Uncommon (1–10 in 1,000 men): dizziness, acne, weight gain, trouble sleeping. Rare but serious: vision spots or flashes, severe abdominal pain, liver function changes, blood clots (leg pain, chest pain, sudden shortness of breath). Most mild side effects improve within a few weeks. Stop the medicine and seek medical help right away if you notice vision changes, yellowing of skin or eyes, or signs of a blood clot.

Store at room temperature (68-77 °F, 20-25 °C) in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep tablets in the original, tightly closed container. Do not store in the bathroom or kitchen where moisture is high. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Discard tablets that are past the expiration date through a pharmacy take-back program or mix them with coffee grounds in a sealed plastic bag before throwing them away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How do I take enclomiphene capsules?

A:Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water at about the same time each day, unless your provider tells you otherwise. Do not crush or chew it.

Q:When will I feel the benefits?

A:Many men notice better energy and mood in 2–4 weeks. Testosterone lab levels and fertility improvements usually take about 3 months of steady use.

Q:Can I drink alcohol while on enclomiphene?

A:Light to moderate drinking is generally safe, but heavy alcohol use can lower testosterone and strain your liver. Try to limit alcohol to no more than 1–2 drinks a day.

Q:What if I want to have children soon?

A:Enclomiphene often improves sperm counts, so it can be helpful for fertility. Tell your provider you are trying to conceive so they can monitor you and adjust your dose if needed.

Q:Are there long-term risks with this medicine?

A:Long-term risks appear low when labs are checked regularly, but rare problems like vision changes or liver issues can occur. Your provider will order blood tests every few months to keep you safe.

Q:Should I stop taking it before surgery or a big trip?

A:Tell your surgeon or healthcare provider about enclomiphene before any surgery. They may advise pausing it a week before to reduce clot risk. For travel, take enough tablets with you and keep them in the original container.
