Clinical Information

Evidence-based details for healthcare providers

Use as directed by your healthcare provider. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin once or twice daily, or as instructed. If you miss a dose, apply it when you remember unless it is almost time for your next application. Do not apply a double amount. Your healthcare provider will tell you how long to use this medicine.

Azelaic acid slows the growth of acne-causing bacteria and blocks enzymes that create dark pigment, helping lighten spots and reduce redness. Niacinamide (a form of Vitamin B3) boosts the skin’s barrier, decreases oil production, and reduces inflammation. Most people start to notice calmer, clearer skin within 4–8 weeks of daily use. Effects continue as long as the cream is used regularly.

Do not use if you are allergic to azelaic acid, niacinamide, or any ingredient in this cream. Do not apply to broken or severely irritated skin. Talk to your provider before use if you have a history of asthma or severe eczema, as azelaic acid can sometimes worsen these conditions. Ask your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Using other strong topical products (such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acids, or prescription retinoids) at the same time can increase irritation. If you use these products, apply them at a different time of day or on alternate days as advised by your provider. Avoid alcohol-based toners, astringents, or harsh scrubs that can dry or peel the skin. Tell your provider about all medicines, vitamins, and herbal products you use, even though serious drug interactions with this cream are unlikely.

Very common (affects more than 1 in 10 people): mild burning or stinging for a few minutes after application, temporary redness. Common (affects up to 1 in 10 people): dry skin, scaling, itching. Uncommon (affects up to 1 in 100 people): tingling, lightening of normally dark skin patches, swelling. Rare but serious: severe rash, hives, trouble breathing (signs of an allergic reaction). Most mild reactions improve within 2–4 weeks. Stop use and contact your provider if irritation is severe, worsens, or if you notice signs of allergy.

Store at room temperature (68–77 °F / 20–25 °C) in the original tube with the cap tightly closed. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive humidity. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused cream 12 months after opening or by the expiration date on the package, whichever comes first. Use a local drug take-back program or ask your pharmacy for safe disposal if possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

How long before I see results with Renew?

Most people notice less redness and fewer new pimples after 4–8 weeks of daily use. Dark spots and uneven tone may take up to 12 weeks to fade. Keep using the cream as directed for best results.

2

Can I use Renew with my current acne routine?

Yes, but introduce it slowly if you already use strong products like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or retinoids. Apply them at different times or on alternate days to reduce irritation. Ask your healthcare provider for a personalized schedule.

3

Is Renew safe during pregnancy?

This Base formula does not contain retinoic acid, which is often avoided in pregnancy. Azelaic acid and niacinamide are generally considered low risk, but you should still check with your obstetrician before starting any new skin treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding.

4

What should I do if the cream burns or makes my skin peel?

A mild, short-lived tingle is common at first. If burning, peeling, or redness lasts longer than 15–20 minutes or gets worse each day, use the cream only once daily or every other day. Stop use and call your provider if severe irritation continues.

5

Do I need to wear sunscreen while using Renew?

Yes. Azelaic acid can make skin more sensitive to the sun. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning and reapply during the day if you are outdoors.

6

How should I store the tube when traveling?

Keep the cap tightly closed and store the tube in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, such as inside a toiletry bag. Avoid leaving it in a hot car or freezing temperatures.
