Use as directed by your healthcare provider. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin once daily, usually at night, unless told otherwise. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next application. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed dose. Your provider will decide how long you should keep using this medication.
Hydroquinone blocks an enzyme called tyrosinase, which your skin needs to make the dark pigment melanin. This helps fade dark patches over 4–8 weeks. Retinoic acid speeds up skin cell turnover and boosts collagen so newer, smoother skin comes to the surface; mild peeling can start within the first 2 weeks. Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding (retinoic acid may harm an unborn baby). Uncommon (up to 1 in 100): acne flare, skin tightness, increased sun sensitivity. Rare but serious: severe allergic rash, blistering, or blue-black darkening (exogenous ochronosis) with prolonged hydroquinone use; stop use and seek medical help right away. Most mild side effects improve with moisturizers or by reducing application frequency.
Store tightly closed at room temperature 68-77 °F (20-25 °C). Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Discard any unused cream 3 months after opening or by the expiration date, whichever comes first. Dispose of through a pharmacy take-back program or mix with coffee grounds in a sealed bag before throwing in household trash.
