About Our Pharmacy
Welcome to Kare Pharmacy & Compounding, Southside and Southwest Virginia’s local source for compounded medications. As a compounding pharmacy, we do more than just dispense medications. Our Compounding Pharmacist, Compounding Technicians, and Patient Care Coordinators work as a team with the healthcare provider and patient to create and customize the best possible medication solution.
Why compounding? Perhaps you cannot tolerate or are allergic to a particular medication, its ingredients, or the available strength, or are not responding to conventional drug therapy. Maybe you have exhausted all commercially available medication routes. Or quite possibly your particular medication is in short supply or has been discontinued. Whatever your concern, Kare Pharmacy will find a viable compounded option for you.
From pain management, dentistry, wound care, GI, pediatrics, and podiatry to hormone replacement therapy, oncology or even veterinary applications, across all therapeutic areas, the compounding options are limitless. Let us be your problem solver today!.
Kare Pharmacy’s owner and compounding pharmacist, Prakash Suthar, R.Ph., graduated from the University of Wisconsin’s School of Pharmacy in Madison. After a short stint working in Charlottesville, VA, Suthar moved down to Danville, opening his first pharmacy in 1984. After operating primarily as a retail pharmacy, Suthar saw a need in the community for customized medications, especially given the number of pediatric patients with aversions to taking their medications. Suthar joined the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) in 1992 and has been specializing in customized medications (compounding) ever since. He and his compounding technicians have attended compounding training at PCCA headquarters in Houston, TX and continuously renew their compounding knowledge and experience through continuing education seminars hosted by PCCA.
Our compounding lab is equipped for the production of sterile and non-sterile compounds. Our modern equipment includes: an EMP (electronic mortar and pestle), sterile hoods, powder hoods, steam sterilizer, dry heat sterilizer, sonicator, ointment mill, dry blender, electronic balances integrated with a state-of-the-art computer system and a bar code scanner for accurate measurement of ingredients.
In 2013, Kare Pharmacy joined forces with Medical Center Pharmacy, a retail pharmacy located inside Danville Regional Medical Center.
